Happy Banana Cream Cocktail

…creamy…frothy…wickedly delicious…

And I don’t mean getting intoxicated.

I am not a big drinker and I generally don’t drink alcohol unless on a special occasion when I’m offered a light fruity glass of wine (which most time gets shared with the Mr). The exception is my Kahlua coffee liquor that lives in my pantry and I like to use in food for its distinct aroma and flavor. Like this:

Growing up one of my favorite fruits to eat was bananas. I would mash it, add a touch of kosher salt (yes, salt), and eat it. Growing a little older I “discovered” banana shakes that I prepared myself using banana and ice. Never added yogurt or milk.  To this day while I do something in the kitchen like cooking,  I find myself sometimes mashing a banana, add salt and eat. Yes, some roll their eyes on me. But this is one of many childhood memories…and I love remembering them that way.

Lately I’ve found myself monkeying around with bananas possibly a new obsession, then come up with delightful drinks that the Mr would be proud to rate them as Award Winning banana cocktails.  Well, the Mr would rate anything I do as Award Winning. But that’s another post.

Banana drinks are nothing new, they date back to late 1800s, and now I personalized the recipe and made it an absolutely new favorite. This one is based on Banana-Kahlua mix, it’s delicious and satisfying enough to rock as the new DJ in my house.

Hanging out with friends any time soon? if they love bananas they will love this cocktail…

they will probably ask for more…

and you probably will run out of bananas.

Are you anything like my beloved first born and don’t like to share? be my guest then and have it all to yourself. You might want to add another banana. You deserve it. Something like this:

The best thing is that you can mix into the bananas any flavored liquor you like. I use Kahlua in a lot of my mix-a-drink recipes but never on its own, because for someone like moi who cannot tolerate alcohol (which is a good thing), this one when mixed does not make me talk in a language no one heard of.

So…shall we:

Banana Cream Cocktail

ingredients:

1/2 part kahlua coffee liquor**
1 medium firm banana
1 part whipping cream
pinch cinnamon powder and/or cardamom powder (optional)
crushed ice (start with 1/2 a cup, you can always add more).

In a blender combine all the ingredients. Blend.

Pour drink into chilled martini glass. Garnish with banana and spices.

** Turn this drink to kid friendly by substitute the liquor with low-fat or skim milk. Super for breakfast or a treat.

Note: Drink responsibly.

You may adjust measurements to your liking.

Worry less cook more – My Adventure in Lake Tahoe

Hello everyone,

This morning when I opened my email box for the first time after ten days being away from the screen, which was a much-needed break, I found lots of emails containing new year resolutions from pins, clients, friends. Honestly, I did not want to pay too much attention to my email box (just today) since most of the emails repeat themselves but it gave me food for thought.

I have a different take about this whole “resolution” thing people are so hooked about this time of year. I’m the kind of person who makes promises only if I know I am going to keep them. Sometimes challenging but doable. And so I decided to declare, and as a promise to my other half, my short to the point goal I should call it, not only for the new year but for each new day that is given to me. A promise that’s easier said then done. But I will do my best to keep it.

Dedicated to me, the Mr. and my family:

i will worry less.

i will worry much less.

and everything else

will pretty much fall

in the right place.

This is also the perfect time to share something special – a place I just visited for the first time and heard so much about  – Lake Tahoe. Let me tell you – This. Place. Is. A.MAZING

Besides of the fact that we had to deal with a lot of ice, the change of scenery was like a fresh breath…and a cold one too. It was particularly surprising to me that Lake Tahoe remained sparkly and crystal clear as if it was a sunny summer day and at the same time surrounded by gorgeous white blanket of ice. In the morning a subtle layer of fog would cover most of the lake as I watched houses that were build right on the edge of the surroundings hills and imagine my house having a view just like that. I’m speechless.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

Now here I have to speak. Here not only did I worry less, I cooked less. We stayed at a beautifully constructed hotel that has a touches of modern and eclectic mix. Natural stone floors with muted color hand-made rugs. What a chic contrast. Bee-utiful. And of course, I always look at how food is presented and here is no exception – oversize dining table filled with desserts and sweet goodies. Not that I ate any of them.

I made no secret of the fact that I love to wash my eyes with beautiful food and beautiful things. I love the idea of designing food but not to a point where it becomes a museum piece, oh no. But home-made casually yet attractively placed and showcased, to make me want to touch it and eat it too. It was a delight to my eyes. (and no, I’m not on a diet).

Happy New Year

I’m vacationing in Lake Tahoe as I write this post, and am just popping in quick to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2014! Wow,  so fast.

I wonder what the new 2014 will bring. .. all good and happy.

More soon.

Xo,
